This section provides instructions on preserving and otherwise protecting CUCV Seriestrucks in preparation for shipment.b. Protection for trucks and accompanying equipment must be sufficient to protect themateriel against deterioration and physical damage.12-3.CLEANING.WARNINGDry cleaning solvent P-D-680 is toxic and flammable. Always wearprotective goggles and gloves and use only in a well-ventilated area. Avoidcontact with skin, eyes, and clothes and DO NOT breathe vapors, DO NOTuse near open flame or excessive heat. The solvent’s flash point is100°F-138°F (38°C-59°C). If you become dizzy while using cleaningsolvent, immediately get fresh air and medical help. If solvent contactseyes, immediately wash your eyes with water and get medical aid.CAUTION• Do not use liquids under pressure for cleaning interior of truck.• Prior to application of preservatives, surfaces must be cleaned toensure removal of corrosion, soil, grease, or other acid and alkaliresidues.a. Interior of Truck. Remove all dirt and other foreign matter from all painted metalsurfaces of the truck by scrubbing with cloths soaked in dry cleaning solvent (Item 15, Appendix C).DO NOT apply solvent to electrical equipment, vinyl, or rubber parts of any nature. Notify yoursupervisor for cleaning of electrical equipment. Use warm water and mild soap for cleaning vinyl. Dryvinyl thoroughly. Apply preservative compound (Item 38, Appendix C) to vinyl and rubber.b. Exterior of Truck. Clean exterior surfaces of the truck to ensure removal of all dirt andforeign matter. After cleaning, immediately dry parts to remove excess cleaning solutions or residualmoisture. Let parts air dry or wipe with clean, dry, lint-free cloths. (See MIL P-116).12-3
